asymmetrical balance

Another form of balance is asymmetrical. While the objects used are not necessarily the same, the scales are the same which creates a visual balance. This is my personal favorite type of balance to use. The eye still feels symmetrical, yet you can use different objects, shapes, colors, and designs to add interest to a room.

The true definition of symmetrical balance is spitting an image down the center and having both sides be the same. In design, symmetry soothes the eye and creates a sense of comfort. There is not much that is unpredictable, however sometimes the homeowner wants a traditional space to feel comfortable in.

Many designers create implied spaces within an actual space. The implied space consists of objects that create an enclosed area. However, there are implied spaces all around. Weather that be a crosswalk, drive way, or bench enclosed spaces are everywhere in the environment.

Almost every design consists of an actual space. The room or space that a designer is creating is formed by planes that create an enclosed space. This actual space is what the designer has to work with.

Texture does not always consist of an actual feelings. Sometimes artists can make a space look like it consists of many textures, while in reality its is simply alluded to. The implied texture also gives a room depth.

Texture in any space is very important. Different surfaces and feelings make up texture. In design, combining textures gives a room more depth and dimension. 

residential design

The residential design I focus on incorporates muted tones with lots of rich fabrics and texture. The design of a room does not have to cost a lot, but the feeling must be rich. While Ralph Lauren Home does cost a lot, you can create the same feeling with a lot less money. Ralph Lauren always creates texture by layering lots of fabrics and incorporating a punch of color. The residential design sites I have chosen can all help create a rich looking room, as long as you have the ideas to go there.
